Keep up to Date with RSS Feeds!

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a data format that allows for quick, simple distribution of news and other data. It is very common in the blog community, and rapidly becoming adopted elsewhere. As a matter of fact, you probably use it everyday and do not know it. Most web portals, such as My Yahoo!, use RSS feeds to get news headlines from major news sources like Reuters. Many portals, do now, or will soon, have the ability to add custom RSS news and blog feeds to your personalized portal page.

The Quintum TAC website's "What's New" web page provides an RSS feed for announcements of new software and documentation posts. This enables system administrators to receive timely announcements of updates to software and documentation. We are looking at other ways to use this technology for rapdily disseminating information to our customer base. The "What's new" page is just a start.

How do I Receive the Quintum RSS Feeds?

If you use My Yahoo!, this is simple, just click on the Add to My Yahoo! icon on the right column of the What's New page, and you will have it added with 2 clicks. It could not be easier.

Many email and browser applications now support RSS feeds, and more are becoming "RSS aware" as they release new versions. Mozilla's latest version of their Browser, Firefox, and email client, Thunderbird, both now support RSS feeds.

There are also many dedicated function RSS "News Aggregators". These are mostly for hard-core blog users. You can find a list of these applications, and other ways to view RSS feeds at Blogsphere.

What is the URL for the Quintum RSS Feed?

In the right column of the What's New page (and others to come) you will see a set of icons for various RSS formats, as well as a similar format called "atom". Right click on the appropriate icon for your newsreader (most applications will support any of the formats). Paste the URL into your application.
